Ciao ERP analyzers,

We have updated the 'work' CALMOD database with ERP constants
for the following reference run numbers:

16700, 16730, 16759, 16799, 16834 and 16862

These should cover runs up to 16894, 30-DEC-1998.

LED/TDC and TRK (muon) data have been used to obtain constants
for reference runs 16700, 16759 and 16862, while only TRK (muon) data
have been used to obtain constants for reference runs 16730, 16799
and 16834. Please note that this set covers the period of PMT-gain
resetting, so it is expected to have some big changes on parts of
the detector.

***IMPORTANT***
This entire period has revealed a somewhat worse behaviour for all
SM3 data for the TDC-L vs. TDC-H timing calibration line fit.
Note that the problem seems to be very subtle, since only this part
of timing calibrations is affected by a small amount
(the TDC-L vs. TDC-H line fit has a jitter of 0.4 nsecs for SM3
instead of the typical 0.3nsec for the rest of MACRO).
Yet, this comes to add to similar (but far more serious) problems
with SM3 data during runs 16677-16698 and the observation by Teresa
Montaruli that, in general, runs 16700-16729 give significantly
more background in the 1/beta distribution spread throughout the whole
detector, with some boxes having an offset in their time distribution
for muons of the order of 1nsec, even though the code sets this offset
to 0.
We would appreciate a third opinion and some feedback on what may
be the cause of this problem.

Please get the corresponding xxxxx.KUMAC file from
DISK$SCRAUSA4:[MACROCAL.KUMACS.WORK]
or the .DB (+ STEER) files from
DISK$MACRO:[MACROCAL.CALMOD.WORK.DB].

So far, only Teresa has responded to our call for comments on the
new calibration constants, which has actually triggered a discussion
on some differences she finds for particular scintillator boxes.
Please give us some more feedback in order to understand whether we
are moving on the right direction or not.

Interested people can find comments about these runs on:
DISK$MACRO:[ZACCHEO.CALIBRAZIONI]ZAC_SUM.CAL

We are at your disposal for questions, suggestions and comments.

Ciao,

Yiannis & Nicola
